On June 10, 2011, is the anniversary of the decision of the National Assembly to initiate the European Polytechnic University. On that date, the university celebrates its first birthday.
On the occasion of the anniversary, the university organized its First International Conference ‘Education, Science, Innovation’ ESI' 2011, which took place on 9 and 10 June. The conference will become traditional and will take place each year.
In the oration at the opening of the forum the EPU President Mr. Toshko Krastev claimed that no other university has been able to organize an international scientific conference on such a high academic level yet at its first anniversary.
The rector of the university congratulated the participants and guests and made wishes for a successful and fruitful work.
Prof. Borislav Borissov, Chairman of the Council of Rectors of the institutions of higher education in Bulgaria, focused on the topic of the conference "Education, science and innovation". He emphasized that in these seemingly ordinary words is hidden the success in the development of any country - without innovations in science, it becomes an end in itself, and without science the education system cannot prepare the personnel necessary for the society. Therefore, it is entrusted with high expectations, Prof. Borisov pointed out.
A special youth session was carried out within the Sustainable Development and Green Energy section. Students from the Vocational School "John Atanasov" in Sofia, the Vocational School of Food Technologies in Plovdiv and Ph.D. candidates from the University of Chemical Technology and Metallurgy presented their models and works on the subjects: ‘Energy Efficiency’, ‘Renewable Energy Sources’ and ‘Solar Energy’.
A round table ‘Innovations in Education’ was held during the conference. Topics and questions of present interest, concerning the quality and innovations, the strategy and the vision of higher education came under discussion.
